Kibbutz Kfar Blum
|
How to get there ...?
|
Kfar Blum (Hebrew: כְּפַר בְּלוּם, lit. Blum Village) is a kibbutz in the Hula Valley part of the Upper Galilee in Israel.
Located about 6 km southeast of the town of Kiryat Shmona, it falls under the jurisdiction of Upper Galilee Regional Council. In 1994 the population was 615. |
It was the 1st of March 1997 when I arrived on a dreary, rainy winter's day on the kibbutz as a volunteer. It was the very first time that I have left the borders of South Africa. I was 23 years old and had just graduated with a law degree. All the other volunteers were on an outing to Mt. Hermon. We were shown a bungalow/room where a South African travel companion and I laid out our sleeping bags and spent the first night. I thought at that point, what have I done.....not a good start to my adventures, but nevertheless this is where it all began. I spent 6 months here working in the chicken farm, the fruit and veg market, in the communal kibbutz kitchen, at the swimming pool and I finally ended up working in the 4 star Guesthouse.
