My experience
Saudi was never on my wish list....but we received an offer we could not refuse and ended up in rural Saudi Arabia where the landscape does not much differ from the moon. (Rewriting this next part because I feel like I didn't express my feelings about this trip, correctly and I don't wish to offend any of my Saudi friends. - 24 December 2017) The local people however made this difficult transition into a new culture, worth the trip. We did have a very difficult adjustment with our fellow expats and the very aggressive work environment some of these expats created, made us reconsider our stay in Saudi after a very difficult 6 months. Both my wife and I, have lovely and very special memories of our students especially. The hospitality of the Saudi people was amazing and we will always treasure these moments. Our cultural experience with the locals in particular was the highlight of our trip. If you ever go to visit Saudi, rather sidestep all the Western hang outs and seek out the local people. They will make it worth your while.
